Fair enough, sounds like a good idea. Griff was just messin wiv ya mate, Plus the more money we raise the more leet the server can be....

Griff- 09-01-2005

hehe yeah i was just teasing leech. im not sure about all that other stuff but i spoke to my mate who went to a LAN in melbourne and he said that apon entry he paid his $20, got a reciept, and a card. Now this card was a good idea, it had a IP address to use, recipt number, web site of the people organising the LAN and it also had the sponser/s for the event. thats a good idea if i ever heard one. also when is the next lan? and can we plz get some unreal tournament happening, perty plz

if you wanted to do the leetching propley, what you should do is have a server sitting on the gigabit switch with 2 x 1gig onboard nforce4 chipset mobo with 4x72gig WD 10k installed on a raid.. 1gig link on a nforce board actually can work @ those speeds cos it runs on the hypertransport bus of 1000mhz, and not on the 33.3mhz PCI bus shared with what ever devices on the same bus + having 2 of them in a trunk would be great in this enviroment.. the 4 hdd's in a raid would be great, so @ hte start, hte people who arrive can upload what ever they wanna give to hte public if other people haven't done so, becuase you know what happends if one peoson has somthing popular, that machine isn't usable and if they wanna play games, they cant... so only that server would be getting hammered, and not the players who want to play games. look, even with this setup, you can leetch + play @ the same time.. it's a win win way.. 76gig WD 10K HDD's are comming down in price very fast, and a nice asus A8N-SLI is a great board with 2x1gig and 12 ide channels (8xSATA + 2 x PATA) athlon 3000+ venice is $200 and can o/c to 4500+ easly.. + can double up as a BF2 coop server running with 32bots.. you dont need a fancy GPU, only a GF6200 PCI-E which arn't to expencive.. I just think if you're serious about doing this in the long term (sticklan events), this would be a great way to go

ok, well you should consider somthing like this.. we have these switches @ GSC and can get 1gig modules cheaply.. but a 40port procurve HP switch for $350... the school have purchaced afew through ebay recently.. for around $400 @ the time http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HP-PROCURVE-4000M-J4121A-Switch-40-10-100Base-T-4RU_W0QQitemZ5803736952QQcategoryZ3706QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

your looking to far ahead (in a Year) what about an 8port for the servers and so you know what a server is. It is a computer that you don't play games on it hosts and provides windows services etc. not 4 people who think they are admin to play games on.

Paradoxian- 01-19-2006

It is a computer that you don't play games on it hosts and provides windows services etc. not 4 people who think they are admin to play games on. I think my 'old' box might be used for this purpose. It needs a fat hard drive and some RAM and it'll be an alright server. It is only running a 2.2ghz celeron, but it'll get by on that.
