well the new server set up will be enough to handle what we want to do ( think we will have 4 servers, 1 for ventrillo ( shit computer cant do much elce with it ) 1 which can do the network set up ( and maybe a game or 2 ) and the 2 new ones that will be ok systems to be running as dedicated game servers )
will look cool 4 computers with sticklan PAINTED on the side :D

don't be a typical chino just because it looks good doesn't mean it goes fast.... eg tinted windows on my fully sick Pentium 120..... make sure it works and comes to gether next time at #6 or your usual people will start to leave in which this will leave you with your pretty cases & a room full of masterbating porn geeks.
GAMES Games & MORE games and some file sharing
whiteman- 01-20-2006
ill be drawing up a time table in the next few day which will have dedicated leeching times and set gaming times and what not, which will be posted up ( ruffly ) so we can get opinions on it

what is the point of using program to slow stuff down, when you can still use the window based stuff to keep leeching at a fasted speed and without adding most stuff to run in the background of windows (XP stuffs up enough on it own) and you can't tell people to un-share stuff on there own computers.
I don't think it will work without someone monitoring it, why should you go to the trouble of trying to slow the file sharing. All you need is a good system/Network admin to watch the server and monitor the port load on the switches.

yer i thought it was a good lan got plenty of new games and shit ( 80% of them didnt work ) church and market kinda sucked had to carry my comp almost a block away to the car and i think the games on cds and dvds was a good iddea keep up the good work !!!! practice makes perfect

I'm not sys admin, I'm more like one of those fat CEO types that don't actually know how to make their companies work.
Keeping this in mind, is there a way to disable microsoft file sharing and only have file sharing through our friendly program that redlime was talking about, without making changes on EVERYONE's computer?

guys you should look at Windows Server 2003 pro. it has alot of little features that may help you guys out, the only problem is getting a copy.
I think it would be good as you mai server as you can still have you DHCP service and there is alot more feature for the network side of windows, if you get a change give it a go.

any idea if it can disable or restrict file sharing? I'm looking for something that blocks a certain ports that doesn't need to be installed on every computer.

This might be a good time to ask someone (maybe from Shafted) on how they do it.... just a quick question what is your goal for Sticklan? forgetting costs and time factors, where is this heading as in is this just a smaller version of shafted for people who know of towns that exist past Sunbury or something different in mind?

At sticklan #4 i suggested that they (the organisers) have a big white board or something that can be drawn up into a table... and thusly having every gamers details on it... ie..
Name - Computer name - Password? - Shared files
Billy - Billy - No! - Games, Music, Games
I even lent Tim some white board markers... which i never got back
Anyway if we had something like this... it doesnt even have to be on a whit board maybe on one of teh servers there is a spreadsheet with that on it, that gets updated when ever someone new arrives... thus eliminating all the shouting and walking around trying to find things to leech :P and all the info you need is available.
just my 3.5cents

at #3 they had the white board there, it was the start of a good medium, so imagine my horror when it was vacant from the area. (was it a #4 i didn't know about that lan till after it was over.)

It is a LAN in a hall that isn't a freezing shed and can hold more than 15 people. THAT IS IT. I never wanted it to be anymore. It is a nice dream to ask for a bit more than the hall cost to go towards more switches and cables to allow more people to attend, but it is becoming something that I never wanted it to be, and I hate it.
