Firstly i would have to say that... one power failure is ok, its expected at any lan to happen. BUT 2, i mean come on whats with that? Secondly i must convey my dissapointment at the lack of... stratergy games eg. Warcraft3, Generals, and more DOW. But other than all that it was good and i had fun, And thats all that matters :P

leech- 07-20-2005

whiteman- 07-23-2005

it was just deserved. hahaha the reson there was 2 power outs was becouse some moron hooked up to a full circuit.. next time wont happen i hope.

frogger- 07-25-2005

as been mentioned before the ownly downsides to the lan was that the power and ppl still seemed to go of in little groups need more big games with everyone playin other than that great fun

Griff- 09-02-2005

i would suggest next time that game that are going to be played are on more people computers WITH THE SAME VERSION and also on multiple burnt CD's. sparksy's Iriver was a godsend.

Hey guys sticklan is going good you tend to get a good turnout and when everything gets up and running it seems to run itself BUT: 1.The network need to be looked at your switch setup, you need a core Switch with some balls. (Server switch 1000mbit, Core switch 1000mbit) 2. SERVERS... What are you guys running 3. Cable Management (Do you guys make your own cables?) 4. THE POWER (Sort it out) 5. You need to pick the games and stick to them, maybe make a package with the update you want people to have. You should also give people time to get themselves setup. Not all of us can install everything and have it there all day (Try to have 3-5 copier of each game). Big games are why we come BF V, CS, DoD, Vietcong, CoD for example 8 to 16 per team, remember if you want to play with 5 people you can play at home, so don't play NFS and small games until people pike it. 6. Pick set times to copy from eachother, that shit kills the 100mbit network real quick. 7. Admin should not play every game you need to monitor the LAN. Please don't feel I'm having a go, whenever I talk to you, you say put it on the website, I game alot a this is what makes a LAN really run smoothly.

1.The network need to be looked at your switch setup, you need a core Switch with some balls. (Server switch 1000mbit, Core switch 1000mbit)Basically, this boils down to a lack of funds. If everyone is OK with us charging $25 per person at the next LAN, then we can get all new shiny gear in two LANs time :) 2. SERVERS... What are you guys runningI think lockie is running a file server and also a DHCP server. I'm fairly certain there is NO SERVER runing the games, also due to a lack of funds. 3. Cable Management (Do you guys make your own cables?)We rely on people having their own 3m piece of CAT5. If they're too cheap for that, then they suck. 4. THE POWER (Sort it out)Unless we can rewire the hall, there isn't too much we can do. It's mainly a matter of telling people where they can plug in their computers. I feel we may have to get masking tape to tell people where they can play in... 5. You need to pick the games and stick to them, maybe make a package with the update you want people to have. You should also give people time to get themselves setup. Not all of us can install everything and have it there all day (Try to have 3-5 copier of each game). I guess the images and such for a game could be burnt to a DVD and then a few copies of it made. We'll look into it. Big games are why we come BF V, CS, DoD, Vietcong, CoD for example 8 to 16 per team, remember if you want to play with 5 people you can play at home, so don't play NFS and small games until people pike it.If a group want to play DoW:WA, it's up to them. We're trying to encourage the team games like SWAT4 and F.E.A.R., but a good number of people still can't run BF2, so big games of that are out of the question. CoD we got big games out of, as there was only 1 or 2 people who couldn't run it. 6. Pick set times to copy from each other, that shit kills the 100mbit network real quick. This can probably be solved with those game discs. I'll talk to lockie to see what can be arranged. 7. Admin should not play every game you need to monitor the LAN.Damn straight!

Im not that excited about the prospect of $25 entry fee... :| and if it boiles down to that id rather have my own lan at home, less stress and smaller is somewhat easier to controll. But while it stays $15 im quite happy to be a 'Valued' STICKLAN customer :D

Paradoxian- 12-27-2005

Im not that excited about the prospect of $25 entry fee... :| and if it boiles down to that id rather have my own lan at home Which is why we will always have no server or a proper setup.

The Servers
if you guys don't play every game you will have more then enough servers, it has nothing to do with funds. The only time you need to build new servers is when you guys pay like the rest of us. You need to improve the network speed before a server will function correctly, so at $15 per person if it was done right you should have 1 8port gigabit switch. So if you can get the following: Smart Switch 24 Port & 2 GigabitS A handy multi switch, which can be used as a 24 port 10/100 smart switch, and with the addition of expansion ports, can have a two port gigabit port with either a RJ45 LAN port or a fibre port Supports port-based VLAN and IEEE802.1Q tag-based VLAN (up to 256 groups) Supports trunking up to 7 trunking groups Supports flow control back pressure for half-duplex mode, IEEE 802.3x for full duplex mode Supports Quality of Service (QoS) – two priority queues per port Console configuration Complies with IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u and IEEE802.3ab standards Provides store-and-forward architecture and full wire speed forwarding and filtering rates All UTP ports support full/half duplex modes and auto-negotiation MAC address 6k Buffer memory 512 Kbytes Standard 19” rack mountable Switch $189.00 Modules $89.00 Smart Switch 8 Port Gigabitsktop 5 and 8 Port Gigabit Switches 10/100/1000 auto-sensing ports – automatically detects optimum network speed Supports any combination of 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps network devices Auto MDI-MDIX on every port (auto crossover) Auto-detection of full/half duplex and flow control Store and forward switching method LEDs for power, link,/10/100/1000 and activity Address filtering on all ports Supports 8K MAC addresses 256 KB buffer memory $ 149.00 LIFETIME WARRANTY Maybe you should look at improving what you already don't have. Now with the cable at $15 per person you should have more then enough to go around. (Do you have a licenced cabler) Look Guys you need to organise!

Don't forget we have to pay for the hall hire which is working out at $250 a weekend. We don't normally go too far beyond that. We're looking at an 8-prot gigabit switch to act as the central hub to keep the communication between the switches fast. We'll then need to look into getting switches with gigabit uplinks to really see the speed. It does boil down to funding when you need to buy 4-6 gigabit switches and cables for everything...

whiteman- 12-29-2005

There is 3 servers going around from memory one runs Ventrilio one was used to set up the network and im sure we had one that was being used as a dedicated server. as for the leaching at the lans that slows down the network while games are being play'd Im personaly going to crack down on it this lan as its a royal pain in the arse ( having the amount of shit me and john have that next to every one wants and having your computer permanity slowed down is going to end for me ) there for the only drives on my computer that will be shared will be my games drives and if people want other stuff that i have they can wait till I sleep or go get food. and During game play my drives will not be shared............ Im not sure if i made sence or not but yea.

I think we'll look at having an 8-port gigabit switch at the next LAN and see how the Clan idea works out. If everyone is keen on the clan thing, and we get decent numbers, we'll get a few more and daisy-chain them together until we can get a 16 or 24 port gigabit. CAT5 is fine for gigabit, right? I think we'll get a heap of cables before the next LAN too primarily for hooking up the switches. Really we need someone to put forth loot to buy this stuff to encourage people to come! I'm not the Rich Fat Man of this endevour, so I can't pay for it all. Whitey is happy to put some loot towards it, so I'll harass Darren, Lockie and Con to see what they say...
