Bigger Turnouts
From what i can gather there are a few reasons why the turnout rate for you guys has been a little low of late and hopefully i can offer some insight into these reasons and the organisers can make adjustments accordingly. Firt up i think you had to many LAN's in a short period of time. I am not quiet sure of this but i think you had a couple of LAN's that were closer together, time wise, that what you would normally have it. These events should be spaced out enough so people feel more compelled to show up because of the rareity of the event. Another reason is the time span from the date firt being advertised and the actual date of the LAN. I think 1 month is a good time span, this way people have enough time to organise things acordingly but its not to much time that people forget and/or loose interest. Also a month is a good time span for word of mouth to spread around and enought time to try and build up the event. If word gets around that there is this massive LAN, and heaps of people are going to bethere and its going to be kick ass people will more likely show up. If word gets around that <insert name here> and also <insert name here> and such and such are not going and word gets around the not 'that' many people are going people will be less likely to go. Remember people are sheep after all. To combat this i think you need to build the LAN up more, make it a event. You started on the right foot with prizes and clans but the implimentation of this has been lacking somewhat. Greater organisation of games and times is what is needed. I hope i have shed some light onto the subject. /discuss eidit: you also need to clean out the forums and get rid of the old topics, or get rid of them all and replace them with new ones.

Thanks for your input. This thread will be moved to the Comments section however.. Another reason is the time span from the date firt being advertised and the actual date of the LAN. I think 1 month is a good time span, this way people have enough time to organise things acordingly but its not to much time that people forget and/or loose interest. The time of that post was 4th of November so nearly 2 and a half months before. That was ample time to get for the word to spread, but I dont think people will get bored, people wont pass up sticklan simply because they knew it was already comming, c'mon it's not like we get this awfully great big surprise on nov 25th when they announce another christmas!!!! But your right, we still do our best to create the hype when the lan comes around, but thats up to everyone really, and im sure sticklan staff want everyones help with that. think you had to many LAN's in a short period of time. nah mate. there are 4 a year, every year, so far. And they are usually in every school holidays so that most people are free. But keep up the discussions its good for the soul.

look at you are trying to do and aim for it, don't give up bases on cost an difficaulty like you said there are 4 per year, that is 3 months between each if you can't get it right then ask for help we all enjoy sticklan and we all want to go. People will help if not raise the price if it costs $25 per person and has good games and gigabit network, useful servers then it is as good as the big city lan and the people will come trust me, I will bring more then enough. Well do guys and keep going.

Just a quick question. Why do you have 50 members and never 50 games at the LANs. What are people doing about it, because I know some people that go also don't have the internet?

Griff- 02-04-2006

im pretty sure there was at least 1 LAN where the dates were close together, maybe i got it confused with another lan i had /shrug and as for the advertised date, even though i was a slack arse and didnt read the forums ( fuck you world of warcraft ) i only heard about the LAN 1 week before it happened. Thats what im saying people who dont regulary read the forums or dont at all need to also find out about it.

Sorry Griff dont mean to be a tight arse but im sure tim, whitely, or locky dont want to (or have the time) to call every lanner they know and remind them. Lanners know the Sticklan website, flyers are being posted around the local towns, and we spread it further by word or mouth. I think its up to lanners to look sticklan up and make up thier mind if they want to go, and i know i wouldn't go anymore if the price were $25 aswell. I think the last lan was great. Could have benn much better, but we learn at every lan dont we? The Clan system worked, and the turnout was more that acceptable. And I think we can fuse those to points together... I think it would be good to see more clans forming and then clans can get all their groups to grow and make their members come along, that way people peer pressure each other into it :)

Lets not bring up the $25 thing as its very doutfull that it will ever happen, I personaly will not even suport it. Another thing the closet lan was have held was 3mths apart. thats it The clan idea is great and will stay as i loved it, but next time clans will have to be pre booked in to spots and people, as it was stupid when u have people changing clans (Kenny) and what not. 1 clan per person The last turn out was not to shabby ( cant recall the numbers ) but i liked it seeing tho i know about 15 people that couldnt make it but normaly come, so next time should be a decent number yet again Every lan is trial and error last time we forgot about a trial we had tried before and didnt put it in to play againn ( pre organised games )

Paradoxian- 02-05-2006

I think there would be a few that still would pay the $25 for entry once they understood what we were doing there and could offer some prizes. I think that will be further down the road, as the first step is to acquire the Tony Clark Reserve with sufficient power. A -*test*-('") LAN of some kind might be a wise idea... I just feel I personally wouldn't be up for it as an organiser of games. I tend to get 6 people trying to ask me for stuff at once when I let things get that big.

Billy- 02-05-2006

When it comes down to trying to organise games on the day i can help i guess! go around shouting what games are being played and such! ill talk to you in msn Tim and tell you this idea i have :)

Paradoxian- 02-05-2006

go around shouting what games are being played and such! I think we have enough of that. It doesn't work. We need to have people doing baby steps for everyone, and practically installing each game for each person on their computer. If you plan to just abuse people until something happens, I will not consider it 'helping'.

Any suggestions? you will also always have problems with people not being prepared with the right games and the right versions of games, its retarded i know, but a fact. First decide on a list of games, then what versions to run, then get it on as many comps as possible pre-lan. THEN burn about 10 coppies of each game on CD's since your a tight arse cron ill be happy to pay for the CD's

Paradoxian- 02-05-2006

burn about 10 coppies of each game on CD's Don't worry, I'm on this one. It'll probably be a DVD, and we'll factor it into cost. hopefully each LANer will get a disc at the door. The goal is to have one or two games on the disc or instructions for stuff. It's goal is to be "LANing for n00bs".

cabana bob- 02-05-2006
